Northern Norway gag

When we arrived in the North of Norway, where me and The Gang stayed for New Year, at 2pm on the 26th of December it was dark like the evening. Going into a bar, I asked the barmaid,

"So, when does the sun come up around here?"

to which she replied

"January"

"Haha" I laughed, "good one."

Turns out she wasn't joking and we spent the next week or so in almost pitch blackness seeing glimpses of light reflected in the sky for about 2 hours a day on the fishing island of Lofoten.

I really need to research these things in advance in future...
